IDBDR Update 8/29/2017

Post by Jonathan » Wed Aug 30, 2017 5:01 am

The Bearkskin Fire has now closed part of Section 2 from Pine to Yellow Pine. The closure is north of Lohman, ID and has the main route closed due to fire traffic. Please use our gpx track to avoid the closure area.

Download the Bearskin Fure Detour
The 5,000-acre Bearskin Fire is burning in remote, rugged terrain littered with dead and down timber amongst lodgepole pine and sub-alpine fir. Both tree species are highly flammable and carry fire easily.

On Monday, August 28, Quesinberry's NIMO Team arrived to assist with the management and suppression of the fire.

The fire is within close proximity to the 2016 Pioneer and Buck Fires. Old fire scars will be used to slow the fire's progress. Fire crews are removing vegetation along roads to slow the fire spread and protect values at risk.

Stage 1 fire restrictions remain in place and visitors should drive with caution as firefighting traffic increases. The fire area is closed to all access for public safety however, National Forest System roads remain open. The order will remain in effect until Nov. 15, 2017, unless rescinded earlier by the Forest Supervisor. The Nelson Creek fire in Montana has the Magruder Corridor closed just 4 miles shy of reaching pavement in Montana. You will be turned around if you go from Elk City to this point. It is 98 miles to that point, so we suggest you check with the Elk City Ranger station in Elk City before you travel that direction. We are waiting to hear from the Bitterroot National Forest Service on the status of opening the road back up.

Nez Perce Road Closure 8/29

Incident: Nelson Creek Wildfire
Released: 3 days ago
Closures: Due to its close proximity to the Nez Perce Road the sheriff’s office has issued an evacuation order and closed a section of the Nez Perce Road. Anyone traveling from Idaho will be turned around at the Little West Fork parking area approximately 4 miles shy of the main West Fork Road (state highway 473).

I just got a phone call from the Bitterroot NFS stating they have lifted the closure of New Perce Road. The Magruder Corridor is now open. They suggest though you still check with the Elk City Ranger station before traveling, just in case the fire has changed.
